Tania Nugent: Here in Papua New Guinea 40% of the population is aged under 15, and that's something the country's national broadcaster has taken on board, by giving up the airwaves to the youth, every Saturday night.
Vinna Wingur - Tribe FM Presenter: Tribe FM is actually the youth radio station for NBC. We mainly focus on the youth, the young people of this country, between the age of 13 and 21.
Josephine Oberleuter - Tribe FM Presenter: There's a lot of issues effecting young people but there's nobody to address them or at least there's no platform for people to kind of feel like they have an avenue to talk about or express their views, so I guess, Tribe is supposed to cater to that.
We do 9 to 12 on Saturday night, but we still feel like it's still not enough time given, that is on a Saturday night and Saturdays are all about young people are going out for parties and they're socialising with their friends.
Tribe FM Live Broadcast: Good night to you and welcome on board to the Tribe show for tonight...
Vinna Wingur: It's more about playing the music, you know, the style of music that we young people like, R&B, hip hop, party and all this kind of stuff and not only music but we do talk about the issues that affect young people.
Tribe FM Live Broadcast: We'll be talking to a 4th year student attending the University of Papua New Guinea...
Josephine Oberleuter: We have a lot issues to talk about, there's HIV, there's education, unemployment, criminal activities, sex, relationships.
Tribe FM Live Broadcast: That was our first caller for tonight here in the nation's capital.
Josephine Oberleuter: We had a survey that was done recently. Our listeners, our target audience, they just like the fact that there's new voices on the radio. And young people, they like the fact that they are able to relate to us. And that we are open and to them, when they hear us, it feels like we are having a normal conversation.
Papua New Guinea's population, around 50% is made up of young people under the age of 20 and that is huge, it's huge you know.
Vinna Wingur: In each province we should have a Tribe, based in each province and it should grow and be a recognised youth station in this country.
Josephine Oberleuter: Papua New Guinea is still a developing country and being a population that's very young, I hope that Tribe is able to make a really huge impact on young people's lives. I want Tribe to be a respected station for everyone, I want young people to feel like they are part of the Tribe and feel that they own, that they own the Tribe.
Tribe FM Live Broadcast: It's the Tribe and it's always your call...
