Tania Nugent:When travelling through the Pacific I love discovering new music, particularly sounds that have traditional roots. At Vanuatu's Fest' Napuan music festival there is plenty of that, including New Caledonian band Josephine - a group of brothers that have taken their traditional kaneka beats and combined it with an Australian horn section to create something uplifting.

Patrick Toyada, lead vocalist: Our village is called Pweevo. And Josephine is the only river to cross our land, family land, clan land. So that's why we call Josephine the name of the band.

Our style of music its kaneka music, but also I would say, fusion, kaneka fusion, because we use jazz in it, we use funky, we use reggae, but also reggae like Pacific reggae.

Kaneka music is based on our traditional rhythm, which is the rhythm of my village, top up north. And New Caledonia, many village, we don't have the same rhythm, and that rhythm is our own rhythm and that's why we like to share with everybody, all the people in the Pacific our rhythm. That sounds is like this - yeah.

I don't sing about love a lot, because I already give love to everybody, I sing a lot about environment and social problems.

Music, it's not professional for us. It's really for the love. It's really for sharing with the people.
