In this episode of Pacific Pulse, Clement Paligaru looks at the role of religion in the Cook Islands where Christianity remains a dominant force. A century after missionaries arrived to convert the local population, the current trend is towards apostolic or charismatic churches while the Cook Islands' Council of Churches admits the challenge for the traditional religions is to maintain their congregations as many younger people shun Sunday services. Tania Nugent is at Vanuatu's pan-Pacific music festival, Fest' Napuan, where New Caledonian band, Josephine, a group of brothers whose music combines Pacific reggae, jazz and traditional kaneka beats. Here, they add yet another element, taking the stage with an Australian horn section.
