Pacific Pulse launches its second year with a feature on efforts to revive Cook Islands' black pearl exports, after oversupply, a disease outbreak and falling prices combined to all but wipe out the industry. Clement Paligaru travels to the remote island of Manihiki, 1200 kilometres from the Cooks' capital, Rarotonga, to meet the producers who've not only survived the near collapse of the industry, but who believe the Cook Islands is ready to take on the world's biggest black pearl producer, Tahiti, with a campaign to restore the lustre to the Cook Islands' pearl reputation.
