Bali bombers third appeal bid knocked back

A court in Bali says it will not hold hearings to consider a third "final appeal" received Wednesday from the three Bali bombers on death row in Indonesia.

Denpasar's District Court says it is up to Indonesia's Supreme Court to decide whether to consider the application.

As Jakarta correspondent Geoff Thompson reports, recently Amrozi bin Nuryhasim, his brother Mukhlas and Imam Samudra filed their own judicial review, or final appeal, against their convictions and death sentences for the 2002 Bali bombings which killed 202 people including 88 Australians.

Two earlier "final appeals" were submitted by their lawyers and abandoned mid-hearing.

The three condemned men are now representing themselves and wish to appear personally in court to state their case.

Denpasar's District Court has now received their appeal documents but says it will not hold hearings in Bali but send the application directly to Indonesia's Supreme Court for consideration.
