Philippines
In Depth

The Philippines government and the rebel communist-led National Democratic Front have met for informal peace talks.

It has been revealed the two groups have held three days of talks in Norway - the first such meeting in almost three years.

For nearly 40 years, the military wing of the NDF has waged an armed rebellion to set up a Maoist state in the Phillippines.

The two sides have held peace talks on-and-off since 1986.
