A series of strong earthquakes has hit the Tokyo area, including one with a magnitude of 6.7.
They briefly cut power to more than 4,000 homes and caused an number of minor injuries. Japan's meteorological agency is warning that more moderate aftershocks could strike, although there are no fears of a tsunami. The strongest quake so far hit in the early hours of the morning local time. It was centred in the Pacific Ocean off Ibaraki prefecture, some 100 kilometres northeast of Tokyo.
