07/05/2008 04:34:38 Rice prices up again in Solomons
Solomon Islands
In Depth

In Solomon Islands, the price of rice has risen again despite government efforts to cushion the impact of rising world prices.

The big increase comes a month after the Solomons government abolished import taxes on rice and follows sharp rises in the cost of bread, sugar and flour.

The nation's supplier Solrice says it's unable to continue to absorb price increases in the wake of record rice prices in recent months.
