Young Spider McCall is an ambulance driver with 'attitude'. Recently resigned, his final assignment is to drive an elderly patient from a hospital in Sydney to her son's farm in the country. It's a long journey and Spider isn't about to miss his own farewell party. Sure enough, when the nurse wheels the old lady towards Spider's ambulance, his fears are confirmed. This could be one long trip. Rose Dougherty is a well-preserved seventy year old who's as spirited and wilful as her driver. After one look at Spider, Rose demands to be taken back to her room. But Spider is used to difficult patients. He won't be pushed around and he tells her so. Sparring between the couple escalates as they hit the road. When opportunity knocks, Rose grabs her chance for freedom. She hitches a ride with Jack, a bee-keeper around her own age who is charmed by Rose's crusty humour. Spider catches up with Jack's van and separates the happy twosome. Spider's farewell party can wait, an ambulance driver has his job to do. Little does he know of the bumpy road ahead. The ambulance crashes and Spider is injured. Suddenly the roles are reversed and Rose has to take charge and care for Spider. After meeting up with an assortment of crazy characters, and an unexpected reunion with Jack, they finally arrive at the family farm. Rose's heart is broken when her son and daughter-in-law tell her that they will not be building the granny flat she has been longing for. All hell breaks loose as Spider defends Rose's honour and in the process discovers his true self. Rose must decide how to avoid the nursing home and fulfil her destiny. Her solution is as original and unpredictable as she is. | ||||||
