Exploring the rainforest
Playing and relaxing in a World Heritage Area
Jennifer discovers the magic of Daintree Rainforest in far north Queensland. It is the world's oldest tropical rainforest and the only place in the world were two World Heritage Areas meet - the other is the Great Barrier Reef. To explore the forest it's necessary to cross the Daintree River. Jennifer ventures out on a river cruise to experience the "eerie and mysterious" Daintree River. The guide guarantees there were will be crocodiles to see and Jennifer is not disappointed, just relieved the male known as "Scar Face" is a safe distance away. A retreat just for grown ups in the heart of the forest is much less likely to result in crocodile watching, but it does let you get a real feel for the lush vegetation. The jungle like vegetation surrounds each room. And for something completely different there's jungle surfing. Those with an adventurous spirit can strap on a harness and speed through the trees on a canopy tour at Cape Tribulation. Young or old, it's a fun way to experience the rainforest. |
