Volunteering in India
Teaching English for the future

Tom is in India, the country he describes as the travelers' Mecca.

But as diverse and compelling as India is, Tom says it is impossible not to be confronted by the pervasive poverty.

In Goa, he meets some volunteers working to make a difference in a small community.

The program engages volunteers to teach children English, assist with health programs and generally engage in community life.

Tom demonstrates his teaching expertise and shows just how good he is at making a spoonful of medicine go down, without any sugar at all.

It's easy to see why he says there is nothing quite as magical as watching kids learn.

The children of all ages delight in their English proficiency and welcome any opportunity to practice outside the classroom.

Spending time with the volunteers also allows them some freedom from daily chores, even if only briefly.
